TECHNICAL FAQs

A: Here’s a video tutorial that covers a lot about getting started with the Minion. We are working on new, updated videos, so sign up for updates. CLICK FOR MINION VIDEO
Q: What operating systems does the Minion work with?
A: The Minion software was designed to work with Windows, but can be used with Apple products with the free software – BOOT CAMP.
Q: Do I need to install special software to use my Minion?
Q: My Minion will not connect to my computer. What should I do?
A: Before connecting your Minion to your computer, turn it ON. The light will blink 7x. Then connect to computer. If the light does not blink your Minion may need to be charged.
Q: My Minion isn’t charging, what should I do?
A: NOTE: These are good batteries that, depending on use, have been tested to last for 6-10 hours between charging.
1. With that in mind, make sure the power is turned OFF to charge. If the charge light does not come on when you turn the unit on, but your Minion still works, it means the battery has enough charge in it that it’s reading as “Fully charged”. Continue using your Minion.
- Make sure you are using the correct charging cord that came with your Minion. It should have a Minion FX System label on it.
- Always use a surge protector when charging your Minion.
- If the system is not working and no lights are coming on at all, and you have it turned OFF with the correct charging cord plugged into it, the battery could be dead or fried and will need to be checked or replaced. New batteries are available HERE.
Q: My Keyfob controller or Hacker Kit isn’t communicating with my Minion, what should I do?
1: Make sure the Minion is turned on and the volume is up.
2: Check to make sure the batteries in the Keyfob or Hacker are good, and have enough power to do it’s job.
3: Check to make sure you entered the correct code from the Keyfob or Hacker when programming. (Example – DE : AD : 01 : 00 : 01)
Q: So, when I change any audio on my Minion it erases everything on it??
A: When changing any audio clips the software deletes everything on the system, so you will need to set up all of the audio clips again when changing even one clip. We recommend setting up a folder on your computer with all of your audio clips, etc. for easy access.
It’s also a good idea to take notes on how you are setting things up, especially if you are doing something complicated. We recommend doing screen captures and save them in the folder, naming them for reference. The clipping tool works great for this and is on most computers.
You can also use any sound effects from the VFX audio library HERE.
Here is a video tutorial on loading audio clips into your Minion. More tutorials coming.
Q: How do I load/program audio clips and outputs into my Minion?
A: Here is a video tutorial on loading audio clips into your Minion. More tutorials coming.
Q: How do I set outputs to control a servo or a light with my Minion?
A: Here is a video tutorial on setting outputs up to control a severo or light with your Minion – (Coming)
Q: My microphone isn't working with my Minion.
A: To use the mic/PA you need to program one of the 6 buttons on the system for it and adjust the gain (We recommend gain set to 10 or higher, but you can experiment with different settings.) That button becomes the ON/OFF switch for the mic/PA.
Other things to check…
– Volume up?
– Mic plug connected properly?
– System on?
– System working / battery charged?
– Does the Microphone work on another device?
Here’s a link to a video tutorial that covers a lot. We are working on more updated videos, but this one is still good. CLICK FOR VIDEO
Q: I set my Minion up to use as a PA system, but I’m getting a lot of feedback. What Can I do about this?
A: You need to adjust the gain when setting up the button for the PA. We have found setting the gain at 5 seemed to work the best.
We are working on a video tutorial on properly setting up the PA system and making adjustments to eliminate feedback on your Minion FX System. (Coming)
